The Palaces of Russian Emperors

THE PALACES OF RUSSIAN EMPERORS

  7 days / 6 nights        (program starts every week on Monday)

Saint Petersburg– Gatchina – Peterhof –Pushkin – Pavlovsk

 

Day 1

Arrival in St. Petersburg.Meeting at the airport.
(For the groups that come early in the morning it is possible to order breakfast for an additional payment).

Then you will meet your guide and have a Panoramic city tour. St. Petersburg played a great role in Russian history. During the tour you will see many places which were involved into historical context ( Nevsky Prospect, Kazan Cathedral, St. Isaac Cathedral, WinterPalace, Spit of Vasilievsky Island, The Cruiser Aurora, Field of Mars, Smolny Cathedral ).  The tour will include a visit to Peter and Paul Fortressand The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood. After the tour you will be taken to the hotel.

Lunch at the restaurant.

Settlement in the hotel. Free time for museums visiting and shopping.   

In the evening you have free time. We can suggest you some good places to have a dinner or order a table in a restaurant you would like.

Night at the hotel.

 

Day 2

Breakfast at the hotel.

Drive to Gatchina.

Gatchina is a city in St. Petersbug Region, located 45 km south of St. Petersburg by the road leading to Pskov.
Paul I was the owner of Gatchina for eighteen years that was given to him as a present by his mother Catherine the Great, and when Paul the Fifst became the Emperor he granted Gatchina the status of the Imperial City – official residence of the Russian Emperors.

The program:

  • Excursion to the Gatchina Palace with underground passage visiting;
  • “The Private garden” visiting (add. payment) – only in summer period!

Lunch.

Free time for walking in the park.

Return to St. Petersburg.

Night at the hotel.

 

Day 3

Breakfast at the hotel.

Drive to Peterhof.

Peterhof is the city on the southern shore of the Gulf of Finland and it is famous for its Grand Palace, wonderful parks and a great number of incredible fountains.
You should not miss the chance of visiting Peterhof in summer when you will have the opportunity of walking across its Lower or Upper Gardens and watching The Grand Cascade and Samson Fountain.
And during cold seasons you can visit one of the most beautiful palaces – The Grand Palace. The palace was built in the time of Peter the Great and it is the largest of Peterhof’s palaces.

The program:

  • Excursion to The Grand Palace;
  • Excursion to The Lower and Upper Gardens.

Lunch in Lower Park.

Free time for walking in the park.

Return to St. Petersburg.

Day 4

Breakfast at the hotel.

Drive to Tsarskoye Selo (Pushkin).

Tsarskoye Selo is a former Russian residence of the imperial family. It is located 26 kilometers (16 ml) south from the center of St. Petersburg. It is now part of the town of Pushkin.
The estate belonged to Peter the Great and in 1708 he gave it to his wife — future Empress Catherine I — as a present. It was Catherine who started to develop the place as a royal country residence and her daughter, Empress Elizabeth, was responsible for the building of the Catherine Palace that is considered to be one of the most beautiful palaces in Russia.

By the end of the 18th century, Tsarskoye Selo became a popular summer residence among the nobility. In 1811, Alexander I opened the celebrated Lyceum next door to the Catherine Palace. Among the first students of the Lyceum who graduated in 1817 was Alexander Pushkin, a famous Russian poet. In 1937 Tsarskoye Selo was renamed to the town of Pushkin thus commemorating the centenary of the poet’s death.

In 2010 Tsarskoye Selo celebrates its 300 anniversary.

  • The Catherine Palace and the Catherine Park visiting;
  • Excursion to the Catherine Palace with Amber Room visiting.

Lunch in the Catherine Park.

Drive to Pavlovsk.

Pavlovsk is a town situated 30 kilometers from Saint Petersburg. The town developed around the Pavlovsk Palace, one of the most splendid residences of the Russian imperial family.
The town’s history started in 1777 when Catherine II granted to her son Paul upon the birth of his first child. After Paul’s death the palace was proclaimed a residence of his widow, Maria Feodorovna.

The program:

  • Excursion to The Pavlovsk palace;
  • Free time for the park visiting.

Return to St. Petersburg.

Day 5

Breakfast at the hotel.

Excursion to the ElaginPalace.

The ensemble of Elagin Island was created by decree of Alexander I. The Palace was built for his mother the widow empress Maria Feodorovna as an alternative for Pavlovsk Palace. Elagin island was summer residence of a family of Romanovs till 1917. Since 1918 Elagin Palace became the Museum of history and life.

Lunch.

Excursion to the MikhailovskyCastle.

The Mikhailovsky Castle was built by order of Paul I. Afraid of intrigues and assassinations he didn't like the Winter Palace where he could never feel himself safe. Unfortunately it came that Paul I had been lived in the Castle just 40 days, after he was assassinated in his bed. The Mikhailovsky Castle is unique architectural building in St. Petersburg. Nowadays the Mikhailovsky Castle is a branch of the Russian Museum.

Free time.

Night in the hotel.

 

Day 6

Breakfast at the hotel.

Excursion to the State HermitageMuseum.

The Hermitage is a museum of art and culture and one of the largest and oldest museums of the world. Its collections, of which only a small part is on permanent display, comprise nearly 3 million items, including the largest collection of paintings. The museum has several exhibition centers abroad.

Lunch.

Free time.

Night boat excursion «Majestic St. Petersburg». (add.payment) – only in summer period!

Night in the hotel.

 

Day 7

Breakfast at the hotel.

12.00 Check out.

Free time for shopping.

Transfer to the airport.
